In the United States over a quarter of a million people lose their lives due to complications arising from being overweight. When fat is stored in the belly it is particluarly dangerous and sadly for us this is the first place that fat is stored on our belly's.
The are many reasons why we can end up being overweight, but poor food chioces, bad eating habits and lack of activity are the main ones. We drive all most every where even short distances, sit in our offices all day to drive home and sit in front of the TV.

Scientist have been able to prove that our brains are wired to like those 3 primary flavours finding it hard to stop eating them once we start so our brains are being hijacked!. Making it all the more important that we read food labels and be aware of what we are eating.
Although some people do suffer from genetic disorders this is quite rare and is usually connected to an under active thyroid gland. However we are just consuming more calories than we are burning.
Also it has been proven that obese people often do not eat more than their thinner counter parts but are eating all the wrong types of foods that are packed with trans fats and sugars again pointing to our poor food choices.
Junk foods, take home, drive-thros, fizzy drinks candys, all these foods are very high in calorific content and will result excessive belly fat. These foods are simple carbohydrates and affect your body in many ways one being the risk of high cholesterol.
Belly fat can be a real health hazard. We now know about the two forms of fat that the body stores, subcutaineous fat and visceral fat . Many people lose their lives each year and others live on while
enjoying a lesser quality of life than others. This is because the two types of fats are dangerous. Subcutaneous fat sits just below your skin and above muscle, while visceral fat lies deep in the stomach and wraps itself around your organs. This in itself puts stress on your organs leading to fatique and general lack of lack of energy. When you carry excess weight and belly fat you have less energy because your body has to struggle to transport blood and oxygen over a wider area than usual.
The media constantly portrays obese people in a negative light and this can cause low self-esteem. We unfortunately live in a society that values looks over character. We all are under a constant birrage of info-mercials made with scantily clad girls with skinny appearances and men with perfect abs, muscled biceps and triceps and a lean athletic look. To add to the problems when you are over weight or carry too much belly fat makes it difficult to even find fashionable clothes that hang well on your body because most stores cater for people with leaner body's
Excess belly fat can cause many other problems like digestive and sleeping disorders. Because of irregular breathing while sleeping, a good night sleep usually eludes people in this category. Excess fat in general can be hazardous to one’s health. This is because it can become a source of unhealthy trans fats travelling through the blood stream and cause artery blockages and hence strokes. Belly fat can also create a habitation that is suitable for disease-carrying viruses and bacteria. It has also been proven that people who are obese struggle with a myriad of complications such as depression, low self-esteem and acute fatigue syndrome and diabetes.
